Led by Dr. Meriem Hammal, certified professional beekeeper and scientist, the programme blends engaging classroom learning with immersive practical sessions and three field trips across the UAE.
What You’ll Learn
Over five weeks, you’ll learn the fundamentals of hive management, bee biology, colony health, plant identification, and honey extraction, building real confidence and capability along the way:
Set up and manage a beehive from the ground up
Conduct hive inspections and apply proper maintenance techniques
Understand bee biology, behaviour, and the social structure of a colony
Identify melliferous plants and plan a seasonal foraging strategy
Detect and address common bee diseases and pests
Harvest honey and other hive products ethically and safely

Week 1: Beekeeping Around the World + Beekeeping Tools & Equipment
Explore how humans have worked with bees throughout history, discover global beekeeping traditions, and learn the different types of bees and their roles.
Get familiar with essential tools, how to use them safely, and begin your practical training by assembling frames and hives.
Week 2: Bee Biology & Hive Dynamics
Understand the lifecycle of bees, communication within the hive, foraging behaviour, and colony structure.
Week 3: Bee Health & Disease Prevention
Learn how to detect pests and diseases, apply treatments, and maintain a hygienic, resilient hive.
Week 4: Apiary Management
Discover how to choose hive types, select apiary locations, start a new season, split colonies, introduce queens, and sustain bees after peak season.
Week 5: Hive Products & Processing
Learn how honey, wax, and propolis are produced — and extract honey yourself using professional equipment.
